As a tennis player, it is important that in addition to just knowing and following the rules of the game, you also show good sportsmanship on the court. Sportsmanship includes respecting your opponents, playing fair, and doing your part so that everyone is having fun!
Good sportsmanship s expected at ALL times and from ALL participants --- parents, coaches and spectators in addition to players.

“I recognize that tennis is a sport that places the responsibility for fair play on me.
I promise to abide by the rules of the game, which require me to give the benefit of the doubt to my opponent.
At all times I shall strive to compete with the true spirit of sportsmanship, recognizing that my behavior on the court is a direct reflection of my character.
Whether my matches end with my victory or defeat, I promise to conduct myself in a way that honors my opponents, those who support me, and the game of tennis.”
"Great Sports make a Sport Great"
USTA Missouri Valley expects all players, spectators and providers to respect each other and the game of tennis to provide a welcoming experience to all involved. Players who go above and beyond to display good sportsmanship have an opportunity to be nominated by their peers to win a sportsmanship award.
2025 Campaign
In collaboration with the Match Tennis App, this initiative will continue in 2025. It celebrates players for displaying outstanding sportsmanship during their tournaments or matches. This campaign aims to cultivate a positive environment for all participants, regardless of their age or level of play.
Players, parents, spectators and tournament staff can nominate up to three people per event, but cannot nominate the same person more than once during the campaign. Family members cannot nominate one another.
There is a tiered reward system with prizes being awarded quarterly as well as a grand prize award which is a trip for two to the US Open! Nominations for the grand prize will be accumulated between Jan 1 and June 30, 2025.
